Call for Papers: Cambridge Conference on Interpretation in International Law

Abstract submissions are sought for a conference on Interpretation and International Law, to be held at the University of Cambridge on 27 August 2013, with the support of the Faculty of Law and the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law.

The Government has today published a major analysis paper on the implications of Scottish independence: "Scotland Analysis: Devolution and the Implications of Scottish Independence".  The paper annexes an Opinion written by Professor James Crawford along with Professor Alan Boyle of the University of Edinburgh, entitled 'Opinion: Referendum on the Independence of Scotland – International Law Aspects'.

ICRC Customary International Humanitarian Law Database updated

An update of State practice of 23 countries relating to armed conflict and humanitarian issues is now available on the online ICRC Customary IHL Database. This State practice was processed by the British Red Cross researchers based at the Lauterpacht Centre, in close collaboration with the ICRC.

Professor James Crawford Nominated for the International Court of Justice

The Lauterpacht Centre is delighted to announce that the Australian Government today supported the candidature of Professor James Crawford for election as a Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The International Court of Justice is established under Chapter XIV of the UN Charter and has 15 members who are elected for terms of nine years. Elections for five members of the Court are held every three years.
