Research Area:
Human Rights Law
Research Title:
The application of human rights law to members of the armed forces
Research Outline:
This research is concerned with the extent to which human rights law applies to members of armed forces. In recent years, national and regional courts have handed down significant judgments on the human rights of military personnel, including the right to a fair trial before courts martial, the ability of military personnel to join trade unions, freedom from discrimination on the basis of HIV status, and the right to life on operations. This research is designed to explore the way in which the human rights of military personnel can be balanced with the requirements of military life.
