Emilie Fitzsimons is currently on sabbatical leave working as a Senior Legal Adviser with the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre.

Prior to that, as British Red Cross Senior Research Fellow, Emilie led the team of British Red Cross/International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) project on customary international humanitarian law (CIHL). Emilie is also a Research Associate at Wolfson College.

Prior to her role as Team leader, Emilie was a Research Fellow on the joint British Red Cross/ICRC project on CIHL. Emilie also has experience working in corporate law as a jurist for Baker & McKenzie. She also worked in several NGOs, including within the Abuses in Counter-Terrorism team at Reprieve, and in the post-conflict and ICC team at Redress where she represented the organisation at the 14th Assembly of State Parties of the International Criminal Court with a legal advisor. Emilie has extensive experience as a law tutor, for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Emilie holds an LLM in international law from University College London, and a double degree in French and English Law from the University of Strasbourg in partnership with the University of Leicester. She is fluent in English and French, and is proficient in Spanish.
