Friday, 8 May 2026 - 1.00pm
Location:
Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, Berkowitz/Finley Lecture Hall

There is a sandwich lunch at 12.30 pm in the Old Library at the Centre. All lecture attendees welcome.

Summary: This lecture examines the theoretical and practical interactions between investment arbitration and international human rights law. Drawing on arbitral and international jurisprudence, it explores situations in which the two fields have pulled in opposing ways, as well as those where the two have operated in parallel directions. The lecture addresses, among other issues, the incorporation of human rights type claims in investment treaty jurisprudence, the treatment of damages, and increasing commonality in the way each is criticised as constraining States’ sovereign rights.
