Congratulations to Dr Maayan Menashe, Fellow of the Centre and Senior Lecturer at City St George's, University of London, who has been awarded the 2026 Gavin C Reid Prize by the Centre for Business Research (CBR) at Cambridge Judge Business School. The prize is awarded annually for the best paper by a CBR early-career researcher.
The prize was awarded for Maayan’s article, ‘How International Labor Law is Actually Enforced and Why it Matters’, published in the Harvard International Law Journal (Vol. 67, No. 1, Winter 2026, pp. 203–240).
The article examines how international labour law is enforced in practice and develops a new account of the relationship between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the growing range of actors involved in enforcing labour rights beyond the Organisation itself. Drawing on an empirical analysis of contemporary labour rights enforcement regimes, it shows how the ILO increasingly influences behaviour beyond its formal legal reach through its normative authority, expertise, and role in shaping social norms and expectations regarding acceptable conduct in global labour markets. By highlighting these emerging enforcement dynamics and identifying ways to strengthen these connections between the ILO and societal actors, the article advances a more nuanced understanding of international labour law enforcement and expands the toolkit available for promoting more effective and harmonised compliance with international labour standards.
