Professor Malcolm N Shaw QC is a practising barrister at Essex Court Chambers. He is Emeritus Sir Robert Jennings Professor International Law at the University of Leicester and was the Founder-Director of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex.

He has been a Trustee of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and is a member of the Board of Editors of the British Year Book of International Law and co-editor in chief of the Israel Law Review. He was also a Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre in 2000 and 2005 and delivered the Hersch Lauterpacht Memorial Lectures on 'Regulating the Relationship between International and Domestic Law' in March 2010.

He has written widely on international law, including Title to Territory in Africa 1986, Rosenne’s Law and Practice of the International Court 1920-2015, 5th ed., 2016 and International Law, 8th ed., 2017. Professor Shaw has appeared professionally before English courts, the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice. He was elected an Associé of the Institut de Droit International in 2013.
