Visiting scholars are a key aspect of the Centre’s activities and come from all over the world to stay for a period of research.

Research

The Visiting Fellowship programme is open to scholars wishing to undertake research in all areas of public international law. Visitors come to pursue their own research in a peaceful setting where they have an opportunity to meet other scholars and Centre Fellows. Or they may come to spend a period in quiet reading. Visitors are left to get on with their work in the manner that best suits them but also encouraged to take part in Centre activities.

"My visiting research stay at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law has been a tremendously enriching experience, both professionally and personally. It has given me the privilege to be part of a vibrant community of passionate and inspiring people sharing the same passion for international law. Professionally, it has allowed me to enter into dialogue with experts in the field and get insightful feedback on my PhD, which has definitely helped me to take my research to the next level. Noteworthy in this regard are the weekly Visiting Research Roundtables, in which visiting researchers can present their research and get feedback from peers. Moreover, the numerous seminars, conferences, workshops, and other research activities organised by both the Centre and the Faculty of Law also contributed to the broadening of my general knowledge of international law and to getting acquainted with topics I was less familiar with. Gathering experts from around the world, my stay at the Centre also proved a unique chance to broaden my professional network. Apart from its academic excellence, the Lauterpacht community is, above all, characterised by the kindness and helpfulness of its members, both academic fellows and administrative personnel, making the Centre a warm and inspiring place to stay." "The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law is a fantastic place to conduct research and truly progress in a research project. The way that the Centre is organized sets it apart from other research centres. The coffee meeting encourages people to come together and share ideas every morning. Every week, the Visiting Fellows’ talks allow a more formal forum to discuss methodology, research findings and perspectives on International Law. The opportunity to share ideas with the Fellows and Visiting Researchers has greatly enhanced my own perspectives. Beyond that, I have to highlight how much the staff of the Centre is supportive and how much they contribute to a fantastic environment.
