The Cambridge Arbitration Society (CUArb) is pleased to invite you to its first in-person seminar for the Easter Term. The session will focus on Sanctions in International Arbitration and will take place on Wednesday 26 April at 2pm at the Faculty of Law, Room LG17. 

We have the honour to be welcoming Andrew Cannon and Hannah Ambrose from Herbert Smith Freehills. Andrew is a Partner, Co-Head of the Public International Law Practice and Deputy-Head of the Global Arbitration Practice at HSF, and Hannah is a Senior Associate at HSF's London office. The speakers will also be sharing their knowledge and practical experience from working in cases involving sanctions. The speakers' bios can be found below.

Andrew Cannon (Partner, Co-Head of the Public International Law Practice and Deputy-Head of the Global Arbitration Practice at Herbert Smith Freehills)
Andrew is the co-head of Herbert Smith Freehills' Public International Law practice, and deputy head of its Global Arbitration practice.  He has over 25 years' experience of acting for states, state-owned entities and major companies in international arbitrations and proceedings before a range of international and domestic judicial bodies, including the Court of Justice of the EU and General Court, the UK Supreme Court, House of Lords and Court of Appeal.  Andrew previously worked as a legal adviser to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including on international sanctions matters, and on postings to the UK Representation to the UN in New York and to the EU in Brussels. He is appointed to the UK Attorney General’s Public International Law (PIL) "A" panel of counsel, is a Councillor on the European Users' Council of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and a member of the Executive Board of the European Federation for Investment Law and Arbitration (EFILA).  Andrew is a graduate of Gonville & Caius College, and was awarded the Procter Fellowship to Princeton University, where he studied international relations and international law. 

Hannah Ambrose (Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills)
Hannah is a senior lawyer in the Herbert Smith Freehills' Public International Law practice. She advises clients globally on complex issues relating to arbitration, dispute resolution and public international law. Hannah has represented clients in ad hoc commercial arbitrations and proceedings under the auspices of major arbitral institutions. She has advised on a number of investment treaty arbitration matters and issues, including advising clients on investment structuring and on pursuing investment treaty claims. She also has experience in advising on a range of other matters of public international law, including state immunity and immunity of international organisations. Hannah studied law at Merton College, University of Oxford.
