Research Title:

Interplay of International Investment Law and the Chinese Legal Regime

Research Outline:

The PhD project employs a retrospective approach to investigate the alignment process between international law and national laws and regulations. Its objective is to depict the intricate interplay and spillover effects between bilateral investment treaties next to other international investment agreements with investment chapters and the national legal regime regulating foreign direct investment. The analysis focuses on the People’s Republic of China, considering related foreign perceptions, experiences, and reactions, particularly from the perspective of European economies.

In a broader context and drawing on the evolutionary discoveries, the research further strives to discern legal pathways for establishing a suitable framework for cooperation with China. In the process, this study examines the current challenges and opportunities within the field of investment law.
